Kilroys great game ended in heartbreak after the stellar defense broke down in the 7th inning as the holiday weekend came to a close Monday night.

Kilroys defense was AWESOME the first six innings of play as the fairly quiet bats of Kilroys mustered up enough runs to keep them in the game as the defense contained the Brewdogs lineup to limited base runners.

As the innings flew by in a very quick game, there was 10 minutes left at the bottom of the 7th inning, you heard the Kilroys team echo off the visiting bench the need to score runs. Defensively, the squad seemed to be poised, quick, and ready to play as the holiday weekend festivities didn't seem to be a factor, but the team still knew that they needed to score runs in order to put the Brewdogs away.

The Kilroys lineup adjusted to some junk pitching from the Brewdogs as the the opposing pitcher mastered the low arc flat lob. Ramon Gomez and Kyle Delaney played in the sand together at home plate as they both fanned their first times up to bat.

With each passing inning, they fielded cleanly grounders, pop-ups, and line drives. They positioned themselves very well in the outfield and with each opportunity the infield was able to get the lead runner instead of the standard out at first. Matt Piccirilli recorded two strikeouts, as he continues to work on his mechanics and new pitches.

With the score 8-5 and the Kilroys team feeling good, the bottom of the seventh arrived witha middle finger hidden behind it's back. Piccirilli walked the first batter and gave up another hit. Kilroys recorded an out but the Brewdogs were able to get the runner home that Piccirilli walked.

After that there was a line shot to third that Scott Cowan was unable to manage brought another runner into scoring position. The next batter flied out to Delaney, as Delaney bobbled, but reigned it in the Kilroys squad thought that the runner at second left early. Kilroys challenged, but Old Blue shouted safe as the rule states the runner can tag at first contact.

With two outs and the game on the line, the Brewdogs hit a shot to left-center field that Phil Metzger was unable to run down bringing home the finally 2 runs for the Brewdogs and sealing the loss for Kilroys.

Kilroys defense was spectacular this game, but scoring only 8 runs proves that it will win you some, but not many.

Kilroys next game is against FEI on July 12th at 6:30.

Kilroys 18 Men of Valor 11

Finally the aluminum ASA approved lightning rods of Kilroys have been awakened and every aspect of the the Lansing Pub's game improved during this battle against the Men of Valor on Monday night.

Kilroys took the field for a 7:30 game against the Men of Valor this past Monday. Kilroys got off to a fast start that evening as the team's hitting improved vastly as they continued to score runs in the first inning. Kilroys scored 4 runs in the first and was feeling confident taking the field for the bottom half of the first.

Some inconsistent pitching in the first inning allowed the Men of Valor to get right back into the mix as a change in pitching technique gave the Men some free bases. After Pitcher Matt Piccirilli settled down and let the defense take care of things, the Kilroys squad came out victorious outscoring their opponent in the later innings.

In those innings, Kilroys tried to drain the clock, but the defense recorded a 1-2-3 inning. This gave Kirloys the opportunity to put the game away. Kilroys ended up scoring 6 runs in the top half of the 6th with time ticking down giving the team a lead of 18-11. The Men of Valor had to score 8 runs to disgrace the Lansing Pub, but Kilroys defense would squash any chance the Men thought they had. Kilroys D recorded a 4 up 3 down inning.

With some players slumping and others on a hot streak Kilroys players seemed to have grasped the concept of a team. The slumps are not just at the plate, but also on the base pads. The lack of hitting and the lackadaisical base running has been hoisted on the shoulders of veteran leadership in the likes of Master Blaster in Thunderdome.

If you look beyond Thunderdome, there is a place called Highland, IN and in that place is a team filled with fire, carrying the attitude....."2 teams enter, 1 team leaves"

Kilroys show their fight as the squad regathered to hang with the two best teams in the league, FEI, a team that has blown out Kilroys the last two meetings scoring a combined 58 runs in 2 games, and Bigalows, a hard hitting fundamentally sound ball club.

The first game out of the two matched Kilroys with first place FEI. FEI came out of the closet as usually trying to place the ball to the outfield. They had mild success in the first two innings, but Kilroys outfield made some great adjustments after a visual scouting report of the lineup.

The zombie like bats of Kilroys that have struggle as of late finally came alive as the Kilroys team fought hard to stay in the game and the attitude of Kilroys and the fire that they possessed in the first half of the season returned just in time. Battling back to even the score.

Kilroys would have won the game in the 7th as the winning run was tagged out at home in a baserunning folly with time already expired. Kilroys spirits seemed to have been shattered right at home plate, but with another game at the helm Kilroys had limited time to regain their composure.

Five Minutes Later.....

Kilroys took the field tired, but not sleeping as the game against the Bigalows proved to be somewhat of a defensive battle against the mighty bats of Bigalows.

Kilroys again started off with the visiting team scoring first and it took all seven innings to record a combined 14runs. Bigalows mighty bats were moused by defense as again the defense made some adjustments and placed outfielders in the correct places to field the pop flies screaming off the bats of Bigalows.

Kilroys late rally wasn't enough as another baserunning error proved to be the finishing touch of a hard fought night. Kilroys was in position to beat the 2 best teams in the league with this makeup double header, but came up short both times. Kilroys record in now 4-7-1.

Kilroys has what it takes now and is playing the perfect team to get another win streak going. The Men of Valor. Game time is at 7:30 on June 28th.
