Coaches Corner 14 Kilroys 20
Kilroys won a chilly home opener against Coaches Corner and their record is now 2-1.
Two for Me. One for You. One for Me. Two for You.
That was the attitude of the chilly evening for the first 4 innings until Kilroys ended the politeness with 8 runs in the 5th, but Coaches Corner returned the favor in the top half of the 6th. Kilroys finally iced the victory in the final minutes of the game adding another 5 runs. The final score was 20-14.
Kilroys took the field for a late game against Coaches Corner with the tempature in the low 40's. But soon Kilroys heated things up with their bats. With no reserves, due to the abscense of Marc Piccirilli and Tony Rompca, every player in the lineup recorded multiple hits.
"We blasted a bunch of balls" exclaimed third baseman Anthony Spinosa who went 4-5.
Outfielder Phil Metzger is batting 1.000 for the season, infielder Scott Cowan is providing MVP caliber play both at the plate and on the field and Pitcher Matt Piccirilli recorded strikeouts in the last 2 games. All with the exception of two players are batting over .500 and the fielding percentage is well over .900.
"It's all coming together, but there is always room for improvement" stated player coach Aaron Gibson. "First baseman needs to learn how to back up the cutoff man for one."
The past two games Kilroys has proven that they will not quit. Kilroys competitors kept a close game each of the last two until the team at the end finally comes through with big hits and great glove work.
Outfielder Ray Gomez added, "We got the tools, we got the talent, it's Miller Time!"
As Coach Lou Brown says in Major League. "OK, guys. We've won two games in a row. If we win tonight, its called a winning streak. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE.!"
Kilroys will try to echo the great Lou Brown in a 6:30 game against Kusiak Construction on May 3rd.
In Breaking News, second baseman Bob Kocher will be suspended 3-4 games for substance abuse. Details to follow.

KILROYS COUNT ON LUCKY SEVEN FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON
HIGHLAND, IN
KILROYS 12 KUSIAK 11
Defense. Check. Pitching. Check. Hitting. Check.
Kilroys second game proved to be one of the best this season. Kilroys faced Kusiak Construction this evening and what a battle it turned out to be as Kilroys scored seven runs in the last inning to break the 5-5 stalemate. Kusiak made it interesting by making a rally, but fell one run short only scoring six runs in the bottom half of the 7th.
Play was great on both sides of the ball. Defense was spectacular as no errors were recorded and every routine flyball was gloved with speed and accuracy. Every time Kusiak put a bat on the ball or had a baserunner for the 1st six innings, Kilroys defense squashed the attempt to rally. Player Coach Aaron Gibson's lineup this evening put everyone in the perfect place to mark a "W" on the scoresheet, both defensively and at the plate.
The speed in the outfield of the Metzger brothers, Rick and Phil, combined with the stellar play of both left fielder Anthony Spinosa and right fielder Rudy Monterubbio took the defense to another level. Scott Cowan at the hot corner also came through in the clutch with a couple of frozen rope snags as did shortstop Tony Rompca. Pitcher Matt Piccirilli recorded 2 strikeouts and gave up 2 homers in his first complete game with the help of a great game called behind the plate by Catcher Kyle Delaney.
This victory does not come without price. DH Marc Piccirilli came up lame as he singled to left field running to first. He is listed as day-to-day. Matt Piccirilli, after catching a line shot back to the pitcher is suffering a sprained finger on his left hand. He is also listed day-to-day.
Kilroys' next game is APR 26 at 9:30 against Coaches Corner.

KILROYS SUFFER FIRST LOSE OF SEASON
HIGHLAND, IN
KILROYS 2 FEI 17
Kilroys took the field tonight in the season opener hoping that they could rally up some runs without really practing throughout the off season. It proved ugly when they gave up 13 runs in the 3rd inning. With one out Kilroys seemed poised and polished but an early error opened the door to the baker's dozen. After the error, pitcher Matt Piccirilli gave up 3 home runs (one in the park and 2 that haven't landed yet.)
It was a rocky start with outfielder Rick Metzger leading off and striking out looking. After the first inning, the team looked good and was in the game with the score at 3-2. Pitches were over the plate, grounders were fielded and popups gloved. The infield consisting of Tony Rompca at shortstop, Scott Cowan at third, and Ray Gomez at second, mananged to orchestrate a double play and out of the 2nd inning. After that the hitting was soft, the pitching was flat and the defense was sloppy.
"Well the home opener is in 2 weeks." stated first baseman and player coach Aaron Gibson who went 0-2. "We got that ass beat! That's what we get for not practicing. What you gonna do"
Scott Cowan who recorded the first hit of the season vented, "Yeah it was me that opened the door to the 13 run inning, but at least I got the first hit of the season." A bright spot for Kilroys was Marc Piccirilli. He drove in the lone 2 runs for Kilroys scoring Rudy Monterubbio and younger brother Matt with a single to center.
FEI proved that they could place the ball better than Kilroys and with the score at 16-2 after three innings, Kilroys battled not to give up one run in the 4th, but they couldn't hold on. Slaughter rule was called after the 17th run crossed the plate for FEI. Second baseman Ramon Gomez, said after the game, "I wasn't impressed with FEI at all and it does't matter."

GAME 1
Today is the first softball game of the season. The game is at 6:30pm in Highland. High expectations this year as this team sees the return of a veteran and the arrival of not so young recruits. Matt Piccirilli takes the mound for the 1st time in 3 years and the sponsorship from Kilroys brings power and energy to the middle of the lineup. Opening Day always brings hope, but also sets the standard for the rest of the season. This year marks the first time the Cubs and this softball squad share the same opening day. Let's see if the limited practice schedule affects tonights performance.
